plans

Just wanted to let you know that lovely Ruth now has a blog, so we can keep up with her at: http://www.ruthcrafts.blogspot.com/

Ruth, and a handful of other Bluestockings, (including me!), went to the Festival of Quilts last friday. You can read about what happened here:

Have I missed anyone?

Last year, a number of us went to the Festival of Quilts at the NEC. It’s an incredible event, and everyone had a lot of fun (and bought lots of great crafty things…)

Anyways there are plans to do it again this year, so here is the information:

Festival of Quilts, NEC Birmingham,  Thursday 14th August to Sunday 17th August 2008 (10am - 5.30pm)

We are planning at trip for Friday 15th August. Currently there is a car going from London, and at least one car going from Oxford, so it should be possible to sort out lifts for those who are interested. (Petrol costs will be split between those who are car-sharing.)

Tickets on the day are £12, however they can be pre-booked online for £10. There are also mini group tickets for 4 people at £8.50 (though I need to ring up and double check if they can be split over two days, if it turns out that there is a second group going on the saturday who can’t go on the friday.)

There are also group rates for 10+ people, which I can look into if we have enough interest.

Please let me know in comments or via katie (at) oxfordkitchenyarns (dot) com, if you are interested, and we’ll start sorting out tickets.

:)

Does anyone fancy a trip to the London Stitch & Creative Crafts Show, at the EXCEL building in Islington, on Saturday 1st March?

Tickets are £9, or £7 if we find an offer code (from Simply Knitting magazine, probably, so I will ask my mum, who is a subscriber), and prebook.

My sister, (honourary non-knitter and holder of the only ‘I SEW’ badge), along with some of her knittery friends, and honourar7-if-she-wants-to-be-bluestocking, lovely Jaq (i’m hoping) will also be coming (maybe).

Who’s in?

Go hunting through your stash, the 2nd Annual Oxford Bluestocking Wind-off and Yarn Swap is on!

Date: Saturday 26th January 2008

Location: Katieh’s house, in Headington

Time: 2.30pm onwards (the yarn swap will start at 4.30pm)*

Please feel free to bring cakes or nibbles (I’m going to make a marmalade cake, and a lemon curd cake), yarn you need to wind, and yarn you want to swap!

RSVP: Please comment or email me if you are going to come (and if you’re bringing anyone with you :), so that I have a rough idea of numbers.**

Hope to see you there!

* (Finishing at 8pm at the latest.)

**(Please note, currently this is a Oxford Bluestocking-members only event. It is fine if you’re invite to come along with an existing member, but no non-bluestocking members at this time.)

I have been emailing Rachael about the walking stick cosy competition window display. She is making a Christmas tree to hang them on… I think it’s going to look amazing and I was wondering if we ought to have some kind of Xmas event in the shop and if anyone would be up for coming to London? There are decks, musical joy and the haberdashery to play in. I thought some kind of Christmas tea party might be nice; maybe knit some decorations, drink some wine, bring some cake and listen to some music… also we could invite some people along if anyone has people they’d like to invite. I will be driving to any such event and can organise lifts. Is anyone game and what days suit people best?

Hello - I had this idea in the bath!

How about we run an Oxford Bluestockings Secret Santa?  With say a gift limit of £5 - or equivelent from stash or something. The present could be made, or bought, or whatever. I figured we could run the getting of names in early november, so people have plenty of time to sort stuff out.

Anyways you know how this stuff works. What do you think?

I’m not going to be there tonight, so I just wanted to ask people whether they’d be interested in a “knit-in” at my house on either November 3rd. Alternatively the following weekend would be a possibilty. What do you think folks?

Hello all!

Given that various people went to the Knitting and Stitching Show on Sunday, and bought yarn, I am wondering if it would be better to move the meeting to my house (in Headington) just for this week?

That way, anyone who has anything that needs winding to do can do it themselves, and get to take back their new yarn when they go home, rather than leaving it with me for a week.

I’m happy to provide drinks (tea, coffee, diet coke, open a bottle of wine etc), and we could sort out some food between us.

Given that the weather is getting colder, and people are starting to think about Christmas presents, this seems like a good time to have a (semi)-impromptu winding party.

What does everyone think?
